'Thank you for living the life and thank you for letting me play you,' Bale tells Eklund onstage.
By Aly Semigran
Christian Bale continued his awards-season domination Sunday night (January 30) at the 17th Annual Screen Actors Guild Awards, as he emerged victorious in the Outstanding Performance by a Male Actor in a Supporting Role for his work in "The Fighter."
While heading to the podium to accept a statue has been nothing new for Bale over the past few weeks, things were a little different this time as the real-life Dicky Eklund joined him onstage in an unexpected moment. ("Fighter" star/producer Mark Wahlberg revealed moments later that he encouraged Eklund to go up if Bale won.)
After Bale reached the mic to thank voters, Eklund appeared and put his arm around the actor and embraced him with a handshake and a hug. "Dicky! All right!" a surprised Bale said. "This is the original quacker right here!" Eklund, wearing a black tux and a blue bow tie, congratulated Bale and told him, "Good job, Christian."
Bale reciprocated the feelings and told Eklund, "Thank you, mate. Thank you for living the life and thank you for letting me play you." To which Eklund, referring to a song by the Heavy that is featured in "The Fighter," asked, "How you like me now?" Before Eklund exited the stage, Bale responded with a smile, "I like you now."
The actor continued with his speech by thanking his fellow actors, particularly those who worked with him on the film.
"I love acting, I love what we do," Bale said of his profession. "It's so bloody silly at times, isn't it? It's like playing dress-up, and other times it is so meaningful. I just enjoy that so much. We get to walk in other people's shoes," adding, "Life without empathy is no fun at all."
Bale went on to talk to about how young actors often approach him to ask how he broke into the business, to which he told the SAG audience, "I never have any answers whatsoever."
But he said what keeps him motivated as an actor in such a tough industry is, "I find people endlessly fascinating. As long as you can do that, each project seems like something new." Still, he noted that any actor should be so lucky to work with his "Fighter" co-star. "Bumping into Mark Wahlberg ain't bad."

Enjoying some quality time together, Caleb Followill and Lily Aldridge were spotted lunching in Nashville yesterday (January 30).
The Kings of Leon rocker and his Victoria?s Secret stunner looked happy as they held hands and made their exit.
In related news, Kings of Leon has postponed their Australia and South African tour due to drummer Nathan Followill?s injury and subsequent surgery.
A press release stated, "The Frontier Touring Company regret to advise that the Kings Of Leon tour has been postponed from March 2011 to November 2011 to allow drummer Nathan Followill to recover from surgery for a torn right labrum and bicep. A new itinerary is currently being secured for November in Australia and will be advised to fans this week. Ticket holders should hold on to their tickets until further notice."
And the ?Others? actress and her country crooner are both over the moon at the arrival of their latest family addition.
As to why she only recently let the good news leak (Faith was born on December 28), Nicole explained, "I wanted to be able to tell everybody because I was so excited about her. But at the same time we just decided that this was about being together."
And when asked about the baby?s name, Kidman declared, "We needed to have that through the whole pregnancy. That's what it required -- a lot of faith."

As proof, a newly released ABC promo shows the duo "rigorously preparing for every possible Oscar emergency." Set to the theme music from Rocky, the clip depicts Hathaway and Franco warming up for their emceeing stint by doing biceps curls with -- what else? -- Oscar statuettes. It then cuts to a dance lesson, where Hathaway clumsily topples to the floor after a twirl (apparently they still have some work to do in the choreography department). But what if the strap should break on Anne's dress mid-ceremony, causing a Janet Jackson-esque "wardrobe malfunction"? Don't worry -- Franco's got that covered. Literally. Watch below and see for yourself!
In addition to his hosting duties, Franco, 32, is nominated for best actor for his role in 127 Hours. While Hathaway isn't up for an Academy Award this year, the 28-year-old is a nominee for several categories in our 2nd Annual iVillage Entertainment Awards (which are just as prestigious)! She and Love and Other Drugs costar Jake Gyllenhaal are in the running for Sexiest Onscreen Chemistry. And she's also a contender for Most Flawless Red-Carpet Fashionista, as well as Most Spot-On SNL Impression of a Star for her hilarious portrayal of Katie Holmes.

Award season continues tonight with the Screen Actors Guild Awards! The show is the last of the year to recognize TV as well as film, after the People's Choice Awards and the Golden Globes passed out their small screen honors earlier this month. This may be our last chance to see some of our favorite actors on the red carpet and stage, such as best actor nominees Jon Hamm, Michael C. Hall, Hugh Laurie, and Alec Baldwin. Hopefully we also get a glimpse of John Krasinski and Cory Monteith, whose respective shows The Office and Glee are up for best ensemble cast. No matter who wins, we're happy to enjoy the eye candy that awaits, so tell us - which TV guy are you most excited to see tonight?
Pushing forth with his effort to get out of the legal system, Chris Brown appeared in court with his attorney Mark Geragos for a probation progress report hearing in Los Angeles, California on Friday (January 28).
During the session, the "Say Goodbye" singer was granted a request to be permitted to skip future status hearings - which Judge Patricia Schnegg approved.
Meanwhile, it is expected that a "stay away" order issued against Brown on ex-girlfriend Rihanna will soon be reduced to a "do not annoy" order.
The court doings come after Brown pleaded guilty to assaulting Rihanna after a pre-Grammy Awards party in 2009.

Charlie Sheen's life is just drama on top of drama these days. The actor landed in the hospital again Thursday morning after allegedly spending the night partying and doing cocaine with several porn star pals. And when things went south, the group reached out to two stars of The Real Housewives of Beverly Hills for help.
Sheen's neighbors, Dr. Paul Nassif and wife Adrienne Maloof-Nassif tell People.com: "We did receive a call from Charlie's house this morning, asking for medical assistance and advice and immediately insisted the caller dial 911. Dr. Nassif also immediately called 911."
After a hard night of partying, the Two and a Half Men actor was rushed to Cedars-Sinai Medical Center, after complaining of severe stomach pains. The latest reports say Sheen may have suffered a hernia and may need surgery to repair the injury.
"As longtime friends, we are obviously very concerned about his well-being," Nassif and Maloof-Nassif said. "Our thoughts and prayers are with him and his family right now and we wish him a speedy recovery."

She?s been in treatment since late October, and now Demi Lovato has headed back home.
Spotted on the west coast earlier today (January 27), a source close to the Disney darling told People Magazine that the actress has ?completed her prescribed treatment and an outpatient program near the treatment facility.?
Continuing on, the insider dished, "For now, she is getting back to her regular routine and spending time with her family and close friends."
"I want to make sure my fans know how thankful I am for all their love, support and prayers during this difficult time. Thank you for standing beside me through it all," Lovato wrote on Facebook during treatment for her emotional and physical issues.
Just days after new anti-Semitic photos of Jesse James were uncovered, the motorcycle man revealed he will be starring in a new History Channel series where he travels to Israel.
"Coming soon to the History Channel a new TV show where you will able to follow in Israel the world’s greatest motorcycle builder/fabricator Jesse James learning from the world’s greatest blacksmith Uri Hofi," an entry on James' blog read. "Jesse applies his newly learned skills to building the rarest Harley-Davidson of them all, a 1937 water cooled Drake Knucklehead."
It's a bold move for Sandra Bullock's ex, who was photographed in 2004 wearing a German Nazi hat. A recently uncovered photo shows James smiling in a convertible next to a man in a Nazi hat flashing the "Heil Hitler" sign.
James has denied that he is anti-Semitic.

Katy Perry is about to embark on her first headlining tour -- and she's giving it the same wonderfully wacky treatment that she brings to her red carpet fashions. Perry, 26, tells Rolling Stone that she is approaching her worldwide "California Dreams" tour as if it's a Broadway show.
"It's got a storyline...kind of loosely based on my life, but a cartoon version," explains Perry, who says she'll be doing no less than 15 costume changes throughout the show. She also has some pretty unique ideas about the atmosphere she wants to create -- even down to how the theater will smell.
"It's the first concert that's going to smell good," she promises. "It's going to smell like you're in cotton candy heaven."
So does that mean she's taking a cue from her fabulous Candyland-themed "California Gurls" video? Yes indeed -- but this time, she's adding some protein.
"I have this whole thing in my show that is about candy and cupcakes and meat," she says. "It's both sweet and shocking, but not in a sexual way." Intriguing!
The 95-date tour kicks off in February, but fans may get a sneak peek when Perry performs at the Grammys on February 13th. Though she's keeping her rehearsals under lock and key, she says that it's going to be her "favorite performance ever."
In addition to being nominated for four Grammys, Perry also is leading the nominees for Celeb Whose Wild Style We Can't Get Enough Of in our iVillage Entertainment Awards. Think she can yank the title out from under Lady Gaga? Cast your vote now!

Kabletown officially takes over NBC, and Jack feels more pressure than ever to bring in high ratings. Since reality TV is a sure-fire winner, and celebrity-filled disaster telethons garner the best ratings of all, he contrives to pre-tape a telethon so that he has the edge over other networks during the next natural disaster.
He commissions the writers to imagine various calamitous scenarios, which not only leads to a slew of insanely inappropriate and unlikely cataclysms but also instigates an internal competition between the writers to earn a place in Lutz' car (that he lies about owning) in case a tornado really does hit a gun factory... or something of the sort. As luck would have it, devastation hits Mel Gibson's private island, where he was hosting a douchebag convention with Jon Gosselin.
Clip premieres tonight at 7:54 p.m. ET on MTV, followed by a live Q&A session with Nicki!

Being the creative person Nicki Minaj is — she did, after all, graduate from a performing-arts high school — she usually has an idea of how she wants her songs to be expressed visually. But when it came to her "Moment 4 Life" video, featuring Drake, the Lil Wayne protégé admitted she wasn't initially sure how the clip should look.
"Usually, with all of my songs, I have a vision of what I want the video to look like," she told MTV News of the clip, which premieres Thursday (January 27) at 7:54 p.m. ET on MTV, followed by a live Q&A with Nicki herself. "But with 'Moment 4 Life,' I didn't have a vision for it yet."
Then, the hip-hop upstart had her "aha!" moment. "All of a sudden, I said, 'I know what it is,' " Nicki recalled. " ... It's a celebration but a different kind of celebration. It's almost a celebration of royalty, you know, arriving into a new level and feeling like you're among kings."
Certainly, Drake's inclusion helps things. The other Lil Wayne mentee also had a huge 2010, and together, the pair were able to help make up for the absence of their boss, who spent the majority of the year behind bars.
Weezy's spirit was present on set, though, even if the Cash Money superstar wasn't, Drake said.
"The fringes on the bottom, that's Weezy old hair," Drake joked of the ornate bed dressing, doing his best Birdman impression. "That's Weezy's dreads dyed red, you understand."
But the Thank Me Later star was supportive of Minaj and her clip. "It's a fantasy video," he said. "So you've got a very regal environment. You got Nicky doing what she does. Big outfits. Big everything."
Don't miss the premiere of Nicki Minaj's "Moment 4 Life" video, featuring Drake, tonight at 7:54 p.m. ET on MTV, followed by a live interview with the Young Money femcee that will continue on MTV.com. If you have questions for Minaj, tweet them with the hashtag #asknicki or upload a video question to Your.MTV.com.Related Videos
Victoria Beckham has a sweet pregnancy craving. The former Spice Girl, who is four months along, has been eating a lot of marmalade.
A source tells The Sun newspaper, "Victoria's having a lot of tea and toast with lashings of marmalade. She can't get enough of the stuff. Mostly she's been having it on toast, accompanied by lots of cups of tea. And although she looked a little peaky last week, she's not having morning sickness like she has done before."

OK! IN THIS ISSUE: HOW SAMMI GOT HER HOT NEW BIKINI BODY!
Season four of the Jersey Shore is moving to Italy and it’s already getting a lot of controversy.
'I just have a special place for him,' she tells Sway after video premiere.
By Jayson Rodriguez, with reporting by Sway Calloway
The Thank Me Later rapper co-starred as Nicki's love interest in her "Moment 4 Life" video, adding more intrigue to their flirtatious union. But when the Pink Friday star explained how she managed to reel Drizzy in for the clip, she proved to be a pretty demanding lady.
"It wasn't hard to get Drake. Drake does what I tell him to do," Nicki laughed to MTV News' Sway during an exclusive interview after the "Moment 4 Life" premiere. "I'm Nicki Minaj! You know Drake does what I tell him to do."
The two have carried on a playful romance over Twitter, in interviews and in song for some time now. But the two Lil Wayne protégés have a strong friendship, according to Nicki.
Out of her multiple videos in support of Pink Friday, she said she was the most comfortable with Drake as a co-star over the leads in the other clips.
"That energy is amazing," she said. "I just have a special place for him. He always makes me feel like it's OK. You know, just chill, relax, jokes. It's never to the point where I don't want to be there anymore, 'Let's wrap this up.' Having Drake there, it felt like we could have shot a second day for this video, and I could be fine. He's someone I look up to, he got a head start. So he's able to tell me things I don't know and I can confide in him."
And like siblings, she also admitted, the two can be competitive despite their camaraderie.
"I'mma try to body you on this track but I love you to death," she described of their kinship. "It's dope."

Book 'em, Diddy?
The hip-hop mogul is scheduled to appear on CBS' "Hawaii Five-0" this spring in an episode where he'll play a detective looking to avenge a crime committed against his family. Music from Diddy-Dirty Money's Last Train to Paris will also be featured in the episode, according to The Associated Press.
Diddy's latest effort debuted in the top 10 on the Billboard albums chart last month. "Anybody that knows me, it's rare when I'm extra happy, but today ... this last two weeks, I've just been blown away by all the support that I've gotten from you guys," the rapper said in a YouTube clip at the time of Paris' release. "You already know I deal with a lot of hate, and I talk about that. But it's also important to talk about when I'm dealing with a lot of love, and the love that y'all have shown me and the girls on this project ... y'all made this project a success, and I want to say thank you."
Recently, Diddy has been making the awards-season rounds, appearing at the Golden Globes despite not earning a nomination for his role in Judd Apatow's "Get Him to the Greek." He told MTV News at the Globes that he hopes to land more comedic roles in the future.
"I've done a lot of drama mostly my whole career, with Broadway and 'Monster's Ball' and stuff like that — my short little career," he said. "But when I did 'Get Him to the Greek,' I really fell in love with making people laugh. I have a knack for improvisation, and hopefully I'll be able to make people laugh more."
